Aviation Safety Staff Engineer (Design, Certification, MMEL, and Operations)

ALPA, the largest airline pilot union, is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer for their Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. This role focuses on policy areas like aircraft design, certification, operations, and maintenance for various aviation safety organizations. The staff engineer will coordinate with stakeholders, translate engineering information, analyze data, and contribute to safety investigations. They are also expected to advocate on the Association's priorities and translate engineering into policy-making summaries for management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering)
• 3 years of related experience in the civilian aviation industry (5+ preferred)
• US and/or Canadian Aviation Regulations (FARs and CARs) knowledge required
• Familiarity with aviation rulemaking committees (ARAC, CARAC, ARC) preferred
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification (A&P) or equivalent preferred
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
• Self-starter with sound judgment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
• Physical ability to perform everyday tasks
