Job Description
American Oversight is seeking a Director of Investigations to lead the team responsible for uncovering government misconduct, revealing behind-the-scenes influence, and driving accountability. This role involves strategic investigation direction, collaborative work with various departments, and representing the organization in external engagements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in investigative research and proven experience leading high-impact investigations.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience conducting and leading progressively complex investigations
- 3+ years of experience overseeing teams and managing investigative work
- Proven track record of leading high-impact investigations
- Proficiency with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and/or state-level public records laws
- Strong people management, project management, and communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience in a remote-first or hybrid nonprofit or mission-driven organization
