The Education Specialist Extensive Support Needs instructs students with Individualized Education Plans in an inclusive environment. The role works directly within a school site and collaborates regularly with Special Education staff and may work with outside consultants and district personnel as needed. The position requires administering academic assessments, writing academic assessment reports, and presenting at IEP meetings. The specialist must also consult and communicate with faculty and parents regarding student needs and progress. Additionally, the role involves maintaining knowledge of current regulations pertaining to special education, collaborating with faculty to ensure students' modifications and accommodations are implemented, and assisting with the development of the master schedule. The specialist must also maintain a high level of rigor for students with disabilities to ensure equitable access to common core and/or alternate curriculum standards.
