Veterinary Technician- Oncology

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician! The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently, with good communication skills and compassion. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital.

Requirements

• Perform physical exam
• Accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
• Perform phlebotomy
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein
• Calculate basic medical math
• Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration
• Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents
• Safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents
• Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages
• Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion
• Have the knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens
• Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough history
• Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital
• Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations
• Address client concerns and answer them appropriately
• Have the knowledge of the tumor types
• Understand diagnostic work-up protocols
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines
• Maintain hospital for day to day function and operation
