Systems Engineer, R2 Storage

Cloudflare is seeking a Systems Engineer to join their R2 Storage team. The team builds foundational infrastructure for object storage at massive scale, and the engineer will help develop the next generation of object storage in a globally distributed system written in Rust.

Requirements

• Systems-level programming skills with languages like Rust, Go, or C
• A solid understanding of distributed systems concepts such as consistency, consensus, data replication, and partition tolerance
• Experience with distributed storage systems like CEPH
• Solid experience with Observability using tools like grafana or Datadog
• Written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical decisions clearly
• Some experience building and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency systems
• Comfortable operating in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines and evolving priorities
• Experience with storage systems, networking, or large-scale cloud infrastructure
• Some DevOps/SRE experience operating distributed backend systems at scale using Salt
