The ED Tech coordinates communications, provides materials, and provides direct patient care in the emergency department. The position requires a certified medical assistant, or successful completion of training as an Emergency Medical Technician or the first year of an accredited nursing school program.
Requirements
- Collects vital signs accurately
- Uses standard precautions and complies with infection control policies
- Collects lab specimens as needed
- Performs STAT EKG’s
- Enters and updates ED tracking boards
- Orders patient care supplies
- Cleans and wraps instruments for autoclaving
- Checks equipment daily for proper function
- Assists with transportation of patients
- Maintains proper levels of supplies
- Completes daily activities on Tech Checklist
- Prepares wounds for MD
- Assists MD with splints
- Applies immobilizers and ace bandages
- Assists MD with pelvic exams
- Assists in triage with vital signs
- Administers appropriate treatments to patients
- Reports observed changes in patient condition to nurse
- Removes medications from delivery system and gives to nursing staff
