Job Description
The Victim Advocate/Defensor de Víctimas assists victims of crime or crisis with information concerning their rights and provides emotional and social needs. This position also helps coordinate the victim services volunteer program and helps maintain records for the department.
Requirements
- Outreach to victims of crime
- Telephone and/or face-to-face crisis response
- Assess emergency needs and provide emotional support
- Information and referral to community resources
- Emergency third-party mediation
- Inform victims about rights guaranteed by the Colorado Constitution
- Document contacts and collect data
- Prevent re-victimization of the victim
- Explain crime Victim Compensation Guidelines
- Maintain statistics of monthly and quarterly summaries
- Conduct surveys with victims and officers
- Maintains records regarding volunteer victim advocates' assignments
- Other duties as assigned
