Senior Scientist (Chemistry and Chemical Biology) - Generative Biology Institute

The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to lead the Chemistry and Chemical Biology function at the GBI within the 300,000-square-foot research facility in Oxford, England. The role focuses on designing and executing synthetic biology experiments to synthesize genomic information and bioactive compounds, collaborating with research groups to tailor synthetic routes. The GBI aims to solve challenges related to genome synthesis, understanding biological systems, and advancing biology engineering.

Requirements

• PhD (or equivalent experience) in organic chemistry, chemical biology, or a related discipline.
• Extensive hands-on experience in organic chemistry, including multistep synthesis, purification, and compound characterisation.
• Proven ability to work independently in a chemistry setting.
• Experience developing and running bespoke chemical protocols tailored to exploratory research questions.
• Good understanding of mass spectrometry (LCMS, MS/MS, proteomics), biological processes (transcription, translation), and molecular biology techniques.
• Strong understanding of chemical safety regulations and lab best practices.
