Maintain and care for animals within the Texas Native Amphibian Center, primarily focusing on the Houston Toad program, and assist veterinary staff as needed.
Requirements
- Provide necessary husbandry parameters and appropriate environments for species in assigned section
- Check animal exhibits daily and service prior to public's arrival
- Strip and clean animal enclosures as needed
- Provide backup coverage as relief keeper
- Conduct water chemistries on a regular basis
- Maintain all animal records
- Abnormal feeding patterns should be noted and reported to supervisor
- Check out with supervisor before leaving at the end of the day
- Carry out animal diet directives from management
- Weigh animals on a regular basis
- Implement animal training and enrichment directives
- Maintain safe and clutter-free work environment
- Monitor building temperatures and equipment
- Conduct routine filter changes and backwashes
- Act in a professional and courteous manner with coworkers and zoo visitors
- Manage time appropriately to complete daily routine and work on extra projects
