This Senior Mechanical Engineer position will lead and support multiple project efforts for Fortna's clients, devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs.
Requirements
- Leading projects in the Operations Design/Solutions Development phase and their transition into the Detail Design/Implementation phase.
- Leading one and supporting multiple projects throughout the Integrated Detail Design (IDD) and Implementation phases.
- Leading all required portions of a project through the requirements engineering and final engineering (implementation) processes.
- Exploring and supporting trade-offs of alternative concepts and leading or supporting alternative analysis justification to drive to the best design during all phases of a project.
- Providing quality assurance during the final phase of the project to ensure a good hand off to the Requirements Engineering phase.
- Supporting internal kick off and efforts to transition from Ops Design.
- Coordinating/Leading detail design (utilizing AutoCAD, DCdesigner, DCconceptor {Fortna's propriety 3D drawing tools}), design lock with Client (signature required), and preparing all bills of material (BOMs).
- Leading internal design reviews, QC process, engineering weekly meeting, and publishing weekly engineering status reports.
- During procurement, supporting Client meetings, identifying potential suppliers, setting up tier levels, supporting request for proposal (RFP) generation, scorecard development, and reviewing and supporting supplier presentations and site visits.
- Estimating coordination, confirming and supporting capital budgets, and attending all price reviews.
- Helping to develop implementation schedule and budget.
- Tracking engineering schedule, budgets, and resource planning (report to engineering directors).
- Scheduling and phasing review within engineering.
- Interfacing with contractor/architect. Conducting site visits to determine and validate field dimensions.
- Updating Pre-Functional Specification Document (PFSD) and supporting FSD generation.
- Leading final engineering effort and engineering weekly meeting, publishing weekly engineering status reports (consolidated from electrical engineering, design engineering, technical services), tracking engineering schedule and budgets, and resource planning (report to engineering directors).
- Calculation of conveyor point loads along with header steel layout & design
- Working to ensure the original business case is being satisfied.
- Attending project kick-off meeting and reviewing the description of operation.
- Leading ITS project introduction meeting/internal kick-off (w/pre-read document). This includes speeds and feeds, design reviews, electrical transition reviews and any other engineering meetings.
- Develop RFPs for suppliers (MHE, S&S, and Installation services)
- Reviewing MHE System implementation plan with the project manager and the site manager (includes phasing).
- Ensuring drawing quality control and quality assurance needed to provide a good implementation and supporting DQC Process (Mechanical & Electrical).
- Leading final drawing approval with the Client.
- Facilitating meetings: speeds and feeds, design reviews, etc.
- Coordinating all prototype efforts (plans, signoff, budgets, etc.).
- Coordinating onsite engineering support during installation and during commissioning.
- Ensuring Client's key objectives remain in focus.
- Managing project during testing and go-live.
- Managing project close-out and final documents including project review and lessons learned.
