Job Description
Gusto is seeking a forward-thinking Staff Software Engineer to shape their compute and networking platforms. This role involves defining the long-term vision for these platforms, leading architecture, performance optimization, and security, and mentoring engineers. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Kubernetes and service mesh technologies and experience scaling and securing distributed systems at scale.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in Infrastructure, Platform, or Site Reliability Engineering roles
- Proven hands-on coding experience in production environments
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes and service mesh technologies (Istio, Envoy, Cilium)
- Demonstrated record of designing highly available systems
- Mastery of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Crossplane)
- Experience owning and evolving 24x7 SaaS infrastructure
- Systems thinking mindset
- Exceptional communication skills
