Job Description
The San Francisco Chronicle is seeking a thoughtful and analytical Columnist / Editorial Writer to produce detailed and researched columns and proposals on California and Bay Area politics. This role involves leading special campaigns, analyzing government decisions, and engaging with the audience online. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of California government and a digital-first mindset.
Requirements
- 5–7+ years of experience in opinion journalism, government reporting, and/or editorial writing.
- Strong understanding of how California and Bay Area government functions.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex policy issues and explain them clearly.
- Experience covering or interpreting public budgets, housing and criminal justice policy.
- A digital-first mindset: ability to write for online platforms and ideas to grow readership.
