This position involves reviewing and appraising insurance applications, evaluating risks, and interacting with companies and brokers. The Underwriter will use independent judgment to determine eligibility and work with agents to prepare quotations and answer questions.
Requirements
- Producer's License
- 3+ years of insurance experience
- Prior exposure to insurance underwriting type activities
- Basic familiarity with computers
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details
- Resourceful and controlled assertive behavior characteristics
- Demonstrated negotiation skills
- Technical knowledge of insurance coverage forms and their application to exposure
- Knowledge of departmental regulations and policies
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion
- Strong interpersonal skills working with Staff and Company Underwriters
- Experience in standard underwriting practices and procedures
