The Coder 3-HIM performs international classification of diseases (ICD) and current procedural terminology (CPT) coding and abstracts data for a legal medical record. This role involves ensuring data accuracy, compliance with regulations, and supporting students/interns with coding reviews. The position impacts various aspects of the facility, including finance, legal, research, and quality assurance.
Requirements
- Completion of Coding Certificate program or Associate's Degree in Health Information Management
- Minimum five years of experience coding in an acute care facility
- Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding systems
- Medical terminology required
- Knowledge of standards established by the American Health Information Management Association
- Ability to read, write, speak English with professional quality
- Proficiency in computer, printer, software programs
- Operational experience with basic office equipment
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to differentiate colors, hear well, and read screens
- Ability to work well under pressure and problem-solve
