Cloud Data Engineer (SQL, AI Search, and Observability)

OnBoard is seeking a Cloud Data Engineer to bridge the gap between traditional database engineering and modern AI search. This role involves designing, deploying, and operating Microsoft SQL Server and Azure AI Search for LLM-powered applications, focusing on building reliable, performant, and secure data systems. The engineer will collaborate with teams across structured data platforms, real-time indexing, and AI-enhanced retrieval systems.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience managing Microsoft SQL Server in production, both IaaS and PaaS.
• Strong experience with full-text and semantic search using Azure Cognitive Search and/or ElasticSearch.
• Proficiency in tuning and debugging database performance.
• Hands-on experience with observability platforms (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, APM tools, etc.).
• Automation scripting with PowerShell/Python.
• Familiarity with compliance, RBAC, and secure data practices in cloud environments.
