Job Description
The Safety Systems team at OpenAI is seeking a Lead Research Engineer to design and oversee an end-to-end mitigation stack to prevent severe chemical and biological misuse. This role requires technical depth, leadership, and cross-company influence to ensure the safe deployment of AI models. The engineer will define technical trade-offs, drive execution, and ensure product safety and efficacy.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in deep learning and transformer models
- Proficiency with PyTorch or TensorFlow frameworks
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles
- Experience with training and fine-tuning large language models (including distillation, supervised fine-tuning, and policy optimization)
- Excel at working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
