We are looking for a commercially minded, proactive and entrepreneurial commissioning editor to join the Pan Fiction team on a fixed-term 12-month contract. The role involves scouting, acquiring and editing commercially successful romance titles, building relationships with authors and agents, and working collaboratively with internal teams to deliver the best work for authors and readers.
Requirements
- Market insight: Experience of working in the publishing industry and an in-depth knowledge of the romance market, displaying clear commercial instinct and an understanding of what sells.
- Acquisition expertise: Experience of acquiring and publishing commercial fiction, ideally in romance or a closely related genre.
- Editorial proficiency: An excellent knowledge of the editorial process from start to finish, and the skills to complete structural and line edits to a high standard, as well as experience of contributing to edits for US-originated books.
- Integrity: The ability to negotiate financially viable and favourable contracts with external parties while building and maintaining long-lasting, trusting relationships.
- Diligence: Excellent administration skills with the ability to organize, prioritize and manage workflow to deadlines.
- Community: A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with authors, agents and in-house teams.
- Adaptability: The ability to effectively prioritize and shift focus in response to business needs, while maintaining thorough attention to detail.
- Curiosity: Demonstrated interest in exploring and leveraging new technologies (e.g., AI) to streamline processes for greater operational efficiency.
