The Peace Corps has partnered with the government of Sierra Leone to strengthen students' math and science skills. High School Math Teacher Volunteers will work with local counterparts to co-develop and support promising STEM teaching strategies and increase students' math achievement.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in math
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any discipline with secondary certification in math
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in Math, Engineering, or Computer Science
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any discipline with a minor or equivalent (15 semester/22 quarter hours) in math
- Teaching experience, preferably in math
- A degree or minor in education or other related fields
- Experience working with limited resources to provide high-quality instruction, tutoring, and extracurricular activities
- Experience working with middle and/or high school aged students in an educational setting, e.g. in after school programs, camps, or mentoring programs
- Experience coaching peers and/or co-workers for improved performance
- Technical skills and experience in curriculum design and review, teaching business English/skills, and computer skills such as typing and digital literacy
