Principal Data Engineer (Azure, PySpark, Databricks)

Smoove, part of the PEXA Group, is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the technical strategy and scale their data platform. This is a senior, hands-on role at the intersection of architecture, governance, and engineering excellence, responsible for defining data infrastructure and ensuring data quality. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills and a deep understanding of cloud technologies and distributed systems.

Requirements

• Design and oversee scalable, performant, and secure architectures on Databricks and distributed systems.
• Lead the design and development of robust, high-performance data pipelines using PySpark and Databricks.
• Define and ensure end-to-end data quality from raw ingestion to curated datasets.
• Establish best practices for data governance, lineage, metadata, and security controls.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR and other regulatory frameworks.
• Mentor data engineers and align data initiatives with business goals.
