Principal Engineer (Ruby) - REMOTE

Principal Engineer (Ruby) role at StrongMind, a remote job. The CTO is looking for someone who understands technology and business, can zoom out and in to see the system and fix gnarly bits, and has business acumen. The candidate will own a core product area, lead multi-team initiatives, and sit on the Architecture Committee. They will be responsible for designing and evolving SMC as an online school OS, balancing product needs with platform stability and extensibility.

Requirements

• Own a core product area and lead multi-team, multi-product initiatives
• Sit on the Architecture Committee and help define and maintain org-wide architectural guidelines
• Design and evolve SMC as an online school OS, balancing product needs with platform stability and extensibility
• Make decisions that balance short-term delivery with 12–24 month evolution
• Apply heavy economic thinking: constantly weigh effort versus value, short-term versus long-term
• Help set expectations with leadership and other departments
• Spend meaningful time in the Ruby/Rails codebase, especially on critical paths, refactors and migrations, integrations, and performance work
• Model good practices in testing, observability, secure coding, and incremental delivery
