Under the supervision of a foreman or his representative, the heavy equipment operator executes various tasks related to the operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment and railway track maintenance.
Requirements
- Operate one or more types of heavy equipment
- Maintain all reports up to date and keep the equipment in good working order
- Use equipment to move, load or unload materials
- Install equipment or accessories on machines or related structures
- Signal directions or warnings to colleagues
- Use equipment safely and efficiently, in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures
- Perform safety and equipment maintenance checks
- Coordinate the machine's actions with other activities
- Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires
- Repair and maintain equipment
- Prevent potential hazards and obstructions
- Study instructions, plans and diagrams to determine the requirements of the work
- Drive heavy equipment on rails and roads
- Work as a laborer as needed
