Embedded Software Engineer

Shift5 is seeking a full-time Embedded Software Engineer to join their growing team. This role focuses on designing, developing, and implementing real-time, high-performance embedded software systems on custom Linux-based hardware. The engineer will contribute to building robust software solutions and ensuring resilient, reliable software releases in mission-critical environments.

Requirements

• Develop, optimize, and maintain real-time embedded software for custom Linux-based hardware.
• Design and implement low-level hardware interface layers (memory-mapped register access, DMA, and efficient communication protocols).
• Write and maintain Linux kernel drivers and userspace APIs.
• Profile, analyze, and tune embedded software for low latency and high throughput.
• Investigate hardware, firmware, and software issues
• Write comprehensive unit, functional and integration tests.
• Document designs, data flows and interfaces
• Lead code reviews and provide hardware/software interface specifications.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
• Collaborate with hardware, FPGA, and data analytics teams.
