Temporary Staff Editor

The New York Times is seeking a versatile editor for the Styles desk to ensure the department’s stories adhere to Times style and standards while keeping in mind our goals of delighting and entertaining readers.

Requirements

• Acting as a reliable second editor for multiple stories per week
• Editing a vast range of material from the reader’s perspective for accuracy, grammar, comprehension and readability
• Conceiving of and pitching fresh story ideas to the desk editor
• Writing and editing engaging display copy that upholds the Styles desk’s voice and tone
• Collaborating with visual editors and making sure they have the information needed to assign and place appropriate art
• Assigning, shaping and editing features, developed with staff or freelance writers, as needed
• Understanding and maintaining the ethical standards of The Times in all published material
