Staff Software Engineer, Android

Tonal is seeking a passionate Staff Android Software Engineer to join a team building the embedded application for their world-class personal trainer. This role involves leading development, collaborating with design and engineering, identifying technology trends, and contributing to a quality-driven engineering culture. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Android development and experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience
• Proficient in design principles, patterns and best practices for Android applications
• Extensive experience in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with backend services integration
• Working knowledge of data analytics and logging tools such as Sentry, Amplitude, or OpenSearch
• Strong understanding of source control management, CI/CD workflow, and build/release processes
• High attention to detail, both in code and UI/UX
• Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Extra Credit: Experience in hardware-software integration, computer visions and AI-based applications
• Familiarity with Apple Health and/or Google Health Connect platforms
• Passion for fitness, wellness, or health-tech industries
