Staff Database Administrator

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Staff Database Administrator to support and protect the vast knowledge stored on Wikipedia and its sister projects. This role involves designing, operating, and optimizing relational databases in MariaDB and MySQL, ensuring the health and performance of the database systems. The Data Persistence team will be a small but impactful part of Site Reliability Engineers in Product & Technology, focused on Wikimedia’s production infrastructure.

Requirements

• Advanced level of experience with MariaDB or MySQL database administration
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and query/schema optimization
• Experience with debugging query performance and schema design
• Experience with high traffic and highly available website architectures
• Knowledge of Linux and IO/data storage concepts
• 6+ years experience in a hands-on DBA role
• Solid English language skills
• Ability to travel 1-2 times a year
