The Working Families Party is seeking a Statewide Political Organizing Director for Michigan. The Director will lead the organization's statewide grassroots organizing strategy, build and develop the membership base, and strengthen its political power base across Michigan. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in grassroots, labor, community, or electoral organizing.
Requirements
- Grow and Develop the Grassroots Membership Base
- Serve as lead organizer and strategist for MI WFP statewide organizing strategy and basebuilding in key geographic areas.
- Recruit, train, and mentor grassroots volunteers and WFP members to take on leadership roles as organizers, chapter leaders, and spokespeople.
- Design and execute membership-building strategies, including canvasses, digital outreach, house parties, community meetings, and mass gatherings.
- Lead political education, leadership development, and training programs for members and volunteers.
- Manage tracking and data systems to monitor member engagement and leadership growth (VAN, EveryAction, or equivalent CRM).
- Drive membership fundraising and dues programs to sustain grassroots power.
- Support Regional Chapters and Local Leadership Development
- Develop and launch WFP regional chapters and local leadership committees across Michigan through the management of staff and partners organizations.
- Identify and mentor local leaders to help sustain and grow regional structures.
- Collaborate with regional and local leaders to establish campaign objectives, enhance electoral influence, and implement community-driven initiatives.
- Facilitate coordination between local chapters and statewide/national campaigns to ensure cohesion and shared purpose.
- Leadership and Internal Development
- Manage the Regional Directors.
- Supervise, mentor, and coach organizing staff and fellows as assigned.
- Contribute to statewide and regional strategic planning processes.
- Support fundraising from individual donors, membership drives, and institutional partners through MI WFP Regional Chapters and caucuses.
- Represent MI WFP in national strategy discussions and at major political or movement events when appropriate.
- Build and Strengthen Coalitions and Partnerships
- Develop and maintain strong, durable relationships with labor unions, community organizations, advocacy groups, and allied movements across Michigan.
- Convene and organize coalitions on shared issue campaigns and electoral projects, ensuring alignment and joint action.
- Represent WFP and WF Power at state and regional coalition tables, campaign convenings, and movement-building events.
- Identify new partnership opportunities with organizations aligned with WFP's mission and values.
- Coordinate shared campaign planning and cross-organizational volunteer mobilizations.
- Support Electoral and Issue Campaigns
- Collaborate with WFP staff and coalition partners to design and implement electoral field programs, including candidate recruitment, voter outreach, and Get Out The Vote operations.
- Support issue campaigns and grassroots legislative advocacy aligned with WFP priorities.
- Participate in candidate vetting, endorsement processes, and volunteer coordination for endorsed races.
- Ensure compliance with campaign finance regulations and reporting procedures.
