The Teen Counselor will maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in the Teen Program.
Requirements
- Directs and supervises all Teen program activities to meet YMCA objectives
- Implements Teen Program curriculum, helping teens to improve leadership development, literacy competencies, values, and physical fitness in an activity-based environment
- Provides a positive role model for children by adhering to the agency's ethics and boundaries standards, philosophy on behavior management, and maintaining healthy, relationships
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
- Maintains attendance and complete incident reporting
- Observes the functioning of participants and reports progress and change to supervisors
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants by providing close supervision of all activities
- Work as a member of a professional team that provides a positive growth-promoting environment for all children
- Understand and communicate the YMCA philosophy and the goals of the Teen Program to the participants and parents
- Meets at designated times with assigned supervisor to review progress
- Maintains the assigned work schedule that is in line with camp days and hours
- Reports to work consistently, reliably, and at the scheduled times
