Shelter and Surgery Licensed Veterinary Technician

Bideawee is a non-profit organization that provides a safe haven for homeless animals. We are seeking a Shelter and Surgery Licensed Veterinary Technician to provide high-quality medical care to animals in our shelter and adoption center.

Requirements

• Proficiency in proper animal restraint
• Ability to draw blood and place catheters
• Experienced or educated in laboratory procedures
• Familiar with radiographic technique and positioning
• Administration of intravenous drugs and anesthetic agents
• Monitoring of all patients and able to identify medical emergencies
• Proficiency in aseptic technique
• Ability to assist in surgery at the discretion of the veterinarian
• Maintain cleanliness in the kennel, prep room and surgery areas
• Controlled drug log recording
• Inventory management
• Client communication and education
• Basic understanding or the ability to learn veterinary software programs
• Generate and perform all tasks on daily Shelter Medicine task list
• Assist and perform anesthesia protocols in all daily surgeries
• Monitor shelter animals medical check list daily and perform task list
• Maintain shelter software records
• Perform and help Veterinarian with foster appointments
• Train and delegate to vet assistants and Adoption Center Animal Care staff
• Help train Veterinary Assistants in shelter software
• Oversee the proper filling of prescriptions by the Veterinary Assistants
• Counsel adopters or fosters with regards to medication administration
• Care for hospitalized medical or post-surgery cases according to Veterinarian orders
• Perform cat intakes
