Senior Applied Scientist - Observability Data Platform

The Observability Data Platform (ODP) at Datadog is a core component that powers the company's telemetry systems. This role focuses on building an intelligent control plane for production systems, integrating symbolic reasoning, formal methods, and generative AI to advance observability and security. The team is looking for an experienced Senior Applied Scientist to drive innovation in observability and scaling infrastructure for stochastic, self-improving systems.

Requirements

• BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, database internals, or infrastructure research
• Strong software engineering foundation (C++, Rust, Go, or Python)
• Deep expertise in at least one area of query optimization, data center scheduling, compiler design, reinforcement learning, or distributed systems design
• Experience applying search, planning, or learning techniques
• Hypothesis-driven and enjoy designing experiments
• Collaboration across research, engineering, and product teams
