Senior Applied Scientist - Observability Data Platform

Datadog is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to build an intelligent control plane for production systems. This role involves designing and prototyping AI-native observability systems, integrating symbolic reasoning, formal methods, and generative AI, and collaborating with AI researchers and platform engineers to drive innovation in observability. The team focuses on building a robust, scalable platform for efficient and reliable observability.

Requirements

• BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, database internals, or infrastructure research
• Strong software engineering foundation in C++, Rust, Go, or Python
• Deep expertise in query optimization, data center scheduling, compiler design, reinforcement learning, or distributed systems design
• Experience applying search, planning, or learning techniques to solve real-world optimization problems
• Driven by systems that learn, adapt, and improve over time
• Collaboration across research, engineering, and product
