Staff Platform Engineer

DigitalOcean is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead the migration track within the Forward Engineering organization. The role focuses on designing and implementing the automation platform, ensuring scalability, and establishing technical standards to enable the team to move quickly. The engineer will act as a hands-on technical leader, mentoring peers and driving repeatable processes to reduce migration cycle time.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, SRE, or DevOps roles.
• Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly large-scale usage of Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Expert-level knowledge of CI/CD practices and tooling (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and experience building self-service pipelines for other engineers.
• Fluency in system programming languages (Go or Python) used for building internal tooling and automation APIs.
• Strong experience designing and maintaining production monitoring and logging systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to document technical decisions (ADRs) clearly.
