Data Reporter (Politics)

The Houston Chronicle is seeking a Data Reporter to produce impactful data-focused journalism. This role involves collaboration with data analysts, journalists, and other teams to uncover and present statewide politics, campaign finance, voter registration, and election records through data visualization and storytelling. The ideal candidate will be skilled at analyzing datasets, writing compelling stories, and working collaboratively within a fast-paced newsroom.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience working with large, complex datasets in a newsroom setting.
• Strong news judgment and ability to quickly analyze data without sacrificing accuracy.
• Comfort using Python, R, or similar tools to clean, analyze, and present data.
• Brevity and creativity in finding stories in spreadsheets and databases.
