MarketAxess is seeking an experienced Lead Site Reliability Engineer to help build our next-generation trading platform. The role is hands-on and deeply technical, ideal for someone passionate about building cloud-native, streaming microservices at scale and driving our application modernization initiatives.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or related roles
- Deep expertise in public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred)
- Strong programming skills in at least one major language (Java or Python) and proficiency in scripting (e.g., Bash, Shell)
- Ownership of FinOps practices for X-Pro, responsible for cloud cost optimization, budgeting, and implementing financial governance across environments to ensure efficiency and transparency
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/AKS/OpenShift)
- Proven ability to design and implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
- Solid understanding of observability practices—metrics, logging, tracing—and experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or equivalent
- Experience defining and monitoring SLIs/SLOs and driving reliability improvements based on data
- Strong automation mindset—comfortable eliminating manual processes through tooling and scripts
- Knowledge of incident management and postmortem analysis, with ability to derive actionable insights
- Familiarity with security and compliance in cloud environments and DevSecOps principles
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to tackle complex distributed systems challenges
- Outstanding communication skills—able to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively across teams
- Ability to influence technical direction and mentor peers, without formal people management responsibilities
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
