This is skilled work in the installation and maintenance of plumbing facilities at various locations for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). An employee in this class is responsible for performing skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of the plumbing and mechanical trades.
Requirements
- Cuts, reams and threads pipe; solder copper pipes and fittings.
- Installs plastic pipes and fittings.
- Installs, maintains and repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks and other sanitary fixtures.
- Installs fixture supports and hangers.
- Maintains piping systems by opening clogged pipes and traps; tests for leaks.
- Installs or repairs oil or gas-fired boilers, controls, burners and filters.
- Maintains steam traps, strainers, condensation motors and float switches.
- Maintains water meters, well pumps, water tanks and water heaters.
- Inspects and performs preventive maintenance of plumbing, sewage and heating systems at various PTC locations.
- Uses hand or power tools while working on piping systems, wrenching, moving fixtures and equipment and performing demolition work.
- Operates and maintains a variety of plumbing equipment.
- Inspects and ensures quality control of completed work.
- Installs, maintains, replaces, services and repairs plumbing pipes, indoor and outdoor, with proper fittings using code compliance methods.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches and prints.
- Lists the amount of time, materials and supplies used for a repair or construction project on the work order per project.
- Must be available on call 24/7/365 for emergency response.
- Utilizes a PTC radio system for transmitting and receiving information.
- Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
