Job Description
The Asphalt Terminal Operations Manager will lead day-to-day operations at a liquid asphalt distribution terminal, ensuring efficient operations, regulatory compliance, and team development.
Requirements
- Direct all terminal operations including receiving, storage, blending, and dispatch of liquid asphalt products
- Oversee terminal blending operations for PG and AC grades, and polymer and rubber modified asphalt
- Coordinate scheduling of inbound shipments (rail and truck) and outbound deliveries to optimize throughput and minimize demurrage
- Maintain accurate inventory records and manage tank farm operations to ensure product quality and availability
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, air quality, and stormwater regulations
- Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices
- Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment, facilities, and operations
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Maintain all required permits and documentation
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of terminal equipment including pumps, heaters, boilers, heat transfer systems, and blending equipment
- Manage boilers and all fired equipment maintenance and ensure compliance with local air quality requirements
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and inspections
- Monitor boiler water chemistry and maintain treatment programs
- Supervise QA/QC testing processes for asphalt and modified products
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and industry standards
- Investigate and resolve quality issues promptly
- Hire, train, and develop terminal operations staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching
- Train personnel on proper handling of hazardous materials and emergency response procedures
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Manage terminal operating budgets
- Track and report key performance metrics
- Maintain records in inventory management systems (SAP, Tank Master, or similar)
- Coordinate with sales, logistics, and supply chain teams
