Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement

The Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement will manage and develop advocacy and community engagement activities for the Black community, focusing on economic, environmental, and social justice. The role involves strategic planning, budget management, project oversight, fundraising, and program delivery. A strong passion for social justice and equity is required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in education, business, management, public affairs, international affairs/international relations, social work or related field preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in community organizing, community engagement, developing grassroots leadership, and/or advocacy required
• Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and execution, program management and/or community organizing
• Advanced knowledge of governmental processes and public policy development (e.g. taxes, infrastructure, legislative, etc.)
• Knowledge of the socioeconomic characteristics and needs of the greater Seattle/King County area
• Intense passion for social justice and equity
• Proven track record of successfully working with community organizations and volunteers
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proven ability to interact with a wide variety of audiences
• Solid public speaking skills
• Experience in coalition building and community mobilization
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Demonstrates cultural competency
• Ability to build trust quickly
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights and weekends
