Requirements
- Accurately and efficiently takes vital signs and basic historical patient data.
- Identifies abnormal patient findings.
- Communicates patient concerns or significant changes in patient’s health status to provider or RN.
- Assists provider in setting up for procedures including aseptic and sterile techniques;
- Provides safe administration of medications and immunizations (oral, IM, subcutaneous, and/or intradermal);
- Obtains EKGs, orders appropriate tests as directed by provider;
- Schedules specialty and follow-up appointments as directed by provider.
- Prepares patients for examinations, assists with examinations, cast or splint applications, minor procedures a variety of other medically related tasks within their scope of knowledge.
- Assists in the coordination of clerical information necessary to provide patient care.
- Checks in patient by escorting patients from reception area to exam room and communicates information regarding any extended wait or delay in appointment time.
- Documents accurately and appropriately in patient medical record.
- Reports change in patient condition to appropriate health care provider in a timely manner.
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments/supplies.
- Maintains a safe environment by practicing sound safety and infection control practices according to agency policies and procedures.
- Engages in performance appraisal on a routine basis by accepting and providing constructive feedback and integrates feedback into practice.
- Participates in competency reviews as required by department.
- Assumes accountability for achieving goals set jointly with the manager for the next evaluation period.
- Participates in the peer review process.
- May perform phlebotomy and perform various laboratory procedures after competency verified.
- Maintains safe collection and processing of laboratory specimens.
