Senior Legal Counsel or Associate General Counsel

Gibson Energy is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel or Associate General Counsel to provide commercially focused legal advice and services to all corporate and support functions across the Gibson Energy group. The role partners closely with internal stakeholders to support commercial transactions and day-to-day business operations through the practical identification, management, and mitigation of legal and commercial risk, while ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws (JD or LLB) from an accredited law school
• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligible for membership in Alberta
• Approximately 6+ years of legal experience gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department at an organization of comparable size, complexity, and scope to Gibson Energy
• Demonstrated experience supporting commercial transactions and business operations through the negotiation, drafting, and management of legal agreements and risk
• Public company experience, including exposure to securities law, continuous disclosure, and corporate governance matters, is an asset
• Energy industry experience, particularly in the midstream sector, is an asset
• Strong commercial judgment with the ability to assess risk, propose practical solutions, and enable business objectives in a regulated environment
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, external counsel, and internal business stakeholders
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach and attention to detail
